What Is CTCP Plate Cost and Thickness
In the printing industry, CTCP (Computer to Conventional Plate) is an important platemaking material and is playing an increasingly critical role.
1. Common Sizes
CTCP plates come in a wide variety of sizes to meet the needs of different printing equipment and printing tasks. Common standard sizes include 1030mm x 800mm, 800mm x 1030mm, 860mm x 660mm, and 660mm x 860mm. For example, in commercial printing, 1030mm x 800mm CTCP plates are commonly used and can be compatible with most common printing press models for printing products such as magazines and brochures. In addition, various non-standard sizes of CTCP plates are available on the market to meet the needs of specialized printing projects or specific printing equipment. For example, some small printing presses may require custom plates of smaller sizes.
2. Thickness
CTCP plate thickness typically ranges from 0.15mm to 0.40mm. The appropriate thickness depends on the type of printing press and specific printing requirements. Thinner CTCP sheets, such as 0.15mm, offer lower costs and excel in printing applications requiring plate flexibility, such as small-format printing with low printing pressure requirements. Thicker 0.40mm sheets, on the other hand, offer greater rigidity and durability, making them suitable for larger presses and applications requiring higher printing pressures. For example, in newspaper printing, thicker sheets can withstand long, high-pressure printing processes, ensuring consistent print quality.
3. Price Range
The CTCP plate cost is influenced by a variety of factors, including raw material costs, production processes, market supply and demand, and brand. Market data indicates that prices range from approximately US$1.50 to US$5 per square meter. Well-known brands, due to their superior product quality control, R&D investment, and brand reputation, may produce CTCP sheets at the higher end of the price range. Some emerging brands or products using more common production processes may offer relatively lower prices. Furthermore, purchase volume can significantly impact price. Generally speaking, bulk purchases can reduce the price per square meter due to economies of scale, saving printing companies money.
4. Special Requirements
Printing Process Requirements: High-end commercial and art printing require extremely high dot reproduction and image detail from CTCP plates. For example, when printing reproductions of artworks, CTCP plates must accurately reproduce the colors and line details of the original. This requires a special photosensitive coating and sophisticated manufacturing process to achieve dot reproduction of 2% to 98% (at 200 lpi), ensuring a high fidelity to the original.
Print Run Requirements: For projects requiring large print runs, such as newspaper printing and best-selling book printing, high press run requirements are required for CTCP plates. Newspapers, with their massive daily circulation, require CTCP plates to maintain image clarity and stability even after numerous print runs. Some high-quality CTCP plates can achieve an actual run length of 150,000-200,000 (depending on the press, ink, and paper conditions), meeting the demands of this type of large-scale printing.
Environmental requirements: With increasing environmental awareness, some printing companies have specific requirements for the environmental performance of CTCP plates. These requirements require that the plates reduce the use of environmentally harmful chemicals during production and be easily recyclable after end-of-life. For example, some CTCP plates made from new environmentally friendly materials meet environmental standards while maintaining printing performance, reducing environmental pollution.
